In The Dead of Night

$400.00

Charcoal on Cardboard

6 ¾” x 13 ¼”

This piece was created during the height of the pandemic lockdown—a time when isolation reached a new depth. Not only were we cut off from visitation and human contact, but I also lost access to most of my art supplies. What I had was what I’d managed to smuggle into my room, and whatever scraps I could find around the unit. This drawing, made on salvaged cardboard with charcoal, came from a growing sense of dread and disconnection.

As parts of my mind and spirit began to shut down under the weight of isolation, I felt a deep urge to stay awake—not just in the literal sense, but to remain present with what was happening inside me. I wanted to understand myself more honestly, to reckon with the ways I’d caused harm in the past, and to fight against the mental traps that kept me there. This drawing is a snapshot of that inner battle. I hope this period of incarceration is like night—dark, slow, endless—but something I can wake from.

** Please note: All paper works are unmatted and without frame. Images are here so you can get an idea of artwork size and possible ways to display in your home.
