The Yard At Night
Water Soluble Oil on Canvas
35” × 18”
One night, outside of standard practices, the recreation officers let us walk to the outside track after the sun had set. A landscape that I had seen every day for seven years suddenly changed, and it exposed a new reality to me. A part of the prison that had always felt open, hinting at freedom, was suddenly oppressive under the tall security lights. As melancholy washed over me, I noticed the moon and was reminded that there were places outside of their control. For me, this painting invokes the same conflicting feelings of hopelessness and hopefulness that I often find inside myself while imprisoned.
** Please note: All canvas works are unstretched and without frame. Images are here so you can get an idea of painting size and possible ways to display in your home.
